Medicine, Technology, Solutions…

Weight loss techniques are continually evolving and we have highlighted some new development which we will be introducing in the coming months. Some of these also tackle specific conditions like diabetes and all of them have significant weight loss capability also. If you are interested in finding out more please contact us and we can give you the latest status on the procedures mentioned below.

Endo Barrier
The EndoBarrier™ is a sleeve that prevents food coming into contact with a portion on the large intestine and as it suggests present a physical barrier to food being absorbed.

The EndoBarrier™ is placed in the GI tract endoscopically (via the mouth) to create a barrier between food and the wall of the intestine and to delay the mixing of digestive enzymes with the food.

Preventing food from coming into contact with the intestinal wall and delaying digestion will alter the activation of hormonal signals that originate in the intestine. This gives the same effect as a gastric bypass, but without the surgery and without changing the anatomy of the stomach, thereby avoiding many of the risks.

The device is positioned in the duodenal bulb and fastened into place with an anchor. The liner extends approximately 2 feet through the small intestine.

The EndoBarrier™ is removed after the treatment period. Using a custom retrieval system, removal of the device takes around 15 minutes.

POSE (Introduction Quarter 4 2011)
Surgeons are using new instruments to suture folds into the stomach, reducing its capacity. This helps you feel fuller quicker and suppresses you feelings of hunger, which can help you eat less and feel full. The surgeon performs the procedure entirely through the mouth without making any external incisions into the body.

Due to the lack of external incisions, the POSE procedure is expected to provide important advantages, including less risk than traditional open or laparoscopic surgery, minimal postoperative pain, fast recovery time and no scarring. Patients have undergone the procedure on a Friday and are back at work by Monday with no bandages or pain and total confidentiality (no one would even have to know that you have had the procedure).

Getting your weight down is vital to improve your health and potentially helps reduce the health problems associated with being overweight, such as Type II diabetes, heart disease, joint disease and respiratory conditions. If you have tried to lose weight without success, ask your surgeon if the POSE procedure might be right for you.
